Friends We Have Lost

This page is to record, and remember, those that were our friends and colleagues during our time in the RAF. Does not necessarily have to be people that were in Masirah, others may know our friends through other postings etc.
Send me information, photograph as well if possible, and I will post on your behalf.

Vernon Brierley - RIP 2004

From Sue Brierley-Hobson about her Father, Vernon Brierley

Sue Brierley sent me these photographs. Her father, Vernon (Vern) Brierley, who brought them back from Masirah after serving there February to November 1975.
Anyone Remember Vernon?
Sadly, he passed away in 2004 aged just 58.
If anyone does remember him Sue would love to hear any stories about his time in Masirah.

 Bill Bratty - RIP 13 October 2023

I'm afraid I have the sad job of letting you know that Bill passed away last night after a long battle with Acute myelogenous leukaemia. Some recent complications with it meant he had to be taken into Cheltenham Hospital and he was being looked after with end of life treatment.
I've known Bill for a number of years, mostly through the RAF Masirah & Salalah Veterans Association but also with the RBL Hardwicke events at Remembrance time.
He was a Northern Irishman who always had a joke, always laughing, and he was also a serial marathon runner until the illness progressed.
He will be sadly missed by so many people.
RIP Bill, Silent Keys and Blue Skies (He was an RAF Telegraphist).
Funeral Video - I, and another RBL Rider, escorted the funeral cortege. Funeral was 14 Nov 2023

Keith Parker RIP 17 October 2023

Information from his son, Scott
Served in MASIRAH in the 70s and was on radio 65.
Also went back and contracted with the US Air Force in the 90s and 00s

Reg Ball, RAF Police - RIP - 28 December 2022 - Advised by Joe Checkley

Reg served on Masirah 1968-69, the same year as myself. We knew each other then, of course, but we were re-united through the Association and became good friends.
Reg has served on the association committee since it's formation in 2011 and proved to be a major part of the backbone of the association.
RIP Reg, you will be greatly missed
We Will Remember Them

Ronald Harry Finch BEM - RIP (Advised by Al Rowland)

Ron served in both Masirah and Salalah in 1970 where he suffered from severe bouts of sunburn, after his return to UK he developed skin cancer and after long periods of treatments died on 13th February 1976.

Dave Cromb (DC) - RIP 6 December 2010

Picture
Dave 'DC' Cromb was the creator of the original RAF Masirah website and brought many people together and back in touch with old mates. He lived in Brisbane, Australia, and ran a successful transport company until his untimely death in December 2010.
