John Driscoll - RAF Police Dog Handler - 1973-74

John served at RAF Masirah from 1973 to 74 as a RAF Police dog handler, we were the first to open the dog section on the island of Masirah having collected the dogs from RAF Sharjah that was closing, Photos below are of the dogs arriving by the Andover plane to Masirah with the aircrew, plus photos of a demonstration put on for the Wali to show what the dogs were capable of to deter the locals from stealing from the camp.
On the back of a couple of the official RAF photos the date was Jan 1972.

Photographs from Gail McKenzie of her Father, William Ridgard McKenzie.
Gail thinks he worked in Logistics, which leads me (DJR) to think he was a Supplier and/or Movements, The photograph of the jetty would bear that out.
Names that Gail obtained from the sides are Dave McGuinness and Tim Healey.

N.B. - IF ANYONE KNEW William/Bill PLEASE GET IN TOUCH THROUGH THE CONTACT PAGE.

Paul Seaton - 1973-1974
Memories from Paul
"I worked at the transmitter site and the guy on crutches (one of the photographs below) was one of my room mates, the Ham station A4XFD was a hobby of mine and the other 2 guys also worked at transmitter site. I used to assist with MDRT as well as a few other things that were going on at Masirah and Salalah. Also played in the hockey team. Kept the budgies going at our work site and was a naughty boy a few times on the unit (got stuck in Cyprus for 4 days and could not get back at my own expense as no civil aircraft flew into Masirah). My 1
st 252 was 14 days filling sand-bags. Do you remember a few guys got pissed fell asleep in the open and had parts of them eaten by camel spiders? thanks for sharing the site brought back a few memories. The picture of my 1st accommodation there reminds me of having bed bugs and having to put lighter fuel on the
bed-frame to kill them every so often."
